Breastfeeding

breastmilk substitutes while welcome when women are unable to breastfeed have health risks associated with them. The World Health Organisation recommends exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months, and sustained breastfeeding with appropriate complementary foods up to 2 years or beyond.

Breastfeeding is the normal way to feed babies. Breastfeeding is natural but as we do not live in a society that has supported breastfeeding for many years, breastfeeding knowledge and support are not available to give women the assistance they need. For this reason many women require breastfeeding education which they once would have received as part of growing up in a society where everyone breastfed their babies openly. Many woman today also require assistance which they once would have received from their women relatives and friends.

Ingrid is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC): someone with demonstrated specialised knowledge and clinical expertise in breastfeeding and human lactation and who has been certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE).

Ingrid provides breastfeeding information and support to women before and after their babies are born.
